Students will practice some sketches with pencils or other drawing tools, and then the class will begin a discussion of oil painting, with emphasis on techniques for painting backgrounds. The second part of day one will be about setting up your easel and beginning the painting process. Students will focus on creating their backgrounds. This will enable it to dry enough to paint the portrait on the next day. During the second day, emphasis will be on capturing the facial features and fur or feathers. The goal is to complete the portrait at the end of the second day. Throughout the workshop, students will be giving individual instructions to help them capture the essence of the animal they are painting. You will be taking a wet painting home and may wish to continue work on it after class. Last Day to Register: February 26, 2024
