Facility

The Community Performing Arts and Learning Center design is truly a work of art. Under the expert guidance of world-renowned design professionals, the Foundation and its partners have developed definitive plans for a state-of-the-art performance, display and learning complex that incorporates design aspects reflecting the criteria and ideas expressed by our local fine-arts organizations and citizenry. The over three-year discovery and planning process has resulted in the highest level of functional as well as artistic design.

The CPAC Foundation complex is located in Green Valley, on the north side of Continental Road, one-half mile west of its intersection with Camino del Sol. It will include two major components, the Performing Arts Center and the Learning Center. The 19-acre site also accommodates sheltered courtyards, covered walkways, a nature walk & astronomy park, ample parking, outdoor amphitheater, space for expansion and commanding views of the Santa Ritas, Josephine's Saddle, San Cayetano Peak, the Santa Catalinas and the distant Tumacacori Mountains.

The Performing Arts Center will consist of four basic components plus support facilities.

  • The 500-seat theater/concert auditorium includes multi-level seating, a proscenium stage with orchestra pit and stage house, sound and lighting systems, and acoustic considerations for both theater and music.
  • The 202 seat theater/recital studio features multi-level seating and is designed for small theater presentations, recitals, chamber music, band & chorus rehearsals, as well as civic meetings & lectures.
  • The rehearsal studio is designed for dance and theater rehearsals, classes and "green room" functions.
  • The gallery, lobby and promenade areas are designed for the display of fine art and visitor interactivity.
  • Support facilities include dressing rooms, storage areas, control/mechanical/technical rooms, offices, box office, kitchen and concession areas, and ample restrooms.

Connected by sheltered courtyards and covered walkways, the Learning Center will include the following.

  • Registration office
  • Fine Arts Laboratory
  • Computer Laboratory
  • Multi-purpose Training Rooms
  • Conference Room
  • Small kitchen
  • Lounge & restrooms

Project Status

Phase I - Completed. Phase I, completed in 2003, consisted of the development of college classrooms and laboratories, administrative offices and a performing arts rehearsal hall. These facilities are currently in use daily. Phase 1 was paid for solely by Pima County and Pima Community College Bonds.

Phase II

Our Future - In the fall of 2008, lights will brighten the skies and a curtain will be raised. You and 201 other patrons will sit in the plush seats and anticipate the premier performance in the second phase auditorium of the newly dedicated Community Performing Arts Center.

The Challenge - Through the tireless efforts of the CPAC Foundation Board an enormous grant has been obtained from Freeport McMoRan Foundation. This is a challenge grant of $250,000, which means that we must raise $250,000 by December 1, 2008. When the $250,000 goal is reached, then a matching amount, in this case $250,000, will be given to the Center by Freeport McMoRan Foundation. These funds will be critical for obtaining furnishings and equipment for the Phase II auditorium.

Phase II will not only be a 202 seat theater and recital hall, but also a rehearsal hall. There will be a lobby and reception area, theatrical dressing rooms, a scene shop and an art gallery. Most of the cost of this phase will be covered by a 2004 Pima County bond issue. The Community Performing Arts Center Foundation has committed to raising $500,000 to provide furnishings and equipment for the auditorium, including a theatrical sound board and lighting systems, premier seating, and ongoing support for educational enrichment and entertainment value.

Now, we are asking you to consider a donation to the Community Performing Arts Center Foundation to help ensure that this long-time dream to build a high quality performing arts venue, is realized. We are a 501(c)3 organization and all gifts are tax deductible. Your pledge and/or donation of a gift of cash or appreciated stock in any amount will make a difference. Be part of the legacy today!

Phase III - The Future. The final phase of construction will take place sometime after 2008. Phase III will include the 500 seat main theater, a stage house, additional lobbies and the main art gallery. Financing for this phase is still under study.
