Camp of the Arts

2011 COTA INFORMATIONAL FLYER

The Community Performing Arts Center Foundation is pleased to announce the 2011 Summer Camp of the Arts (COTA) program for area elementary and middle school aged students in the upper Santa Cruz Valley.

This camp is the brainchild of Sarae Gold and board member Nancy Karsh, both of whom have experience running similar programs in the past. The camp with be held for a three (3) week session which will include instruction in visual arts, vocals, drama and dance all culminating in a student performance. All programming will be taught by art teachers that have been recruited from the local school districts. CPAC wants to present a focused and comprehensive program to our students and with that in mind, all camp activities will be related to and in preparation for the camp-end performances. This year, the theme for COTA will be an adaptation of Midsummer Night’s Dream, which was chosen because it lends itself to a multidisciplinary approach to arts education with opportunities to match almost any interest. The session will run from June 6th ~ 10th, 13th ~ 17th, and 20th ~ 24th with performances on Saturday, June 25th and Sunday, June 26th.  Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 12 PM.

Many residents have expressed excitement and support regarding this program and have offered to fund scholarships, which are available for qualified students.  COTA is a permanent part of the Community Performing Arts Center’s programming during the summer because we believe arts education results in self-motivation, self-confidence and socially adaptable kids.  Furthermore, arts education promotes self-esteem and improved reasoning skills, which translate into better academic performance. At COTA, we help students realize their incredible potential by arming them with powerful learning and motivational skills and inspiring them to see how great they are.
