Architect and professional consultants. After an extensive search process, Burns Wald-Hopkins was selected as the architectural firm for the Community Performing Arts and Learning Center project. Principal professionals guiding the design planning were Antoine Predock, principal architect, Jerald R. Hyde, acoustics consultant, and Fred Masino, theater consultant.
 

Burns & Wald-Hopkins Architects is a nine-person architectural firm that specializes in the planning and design of facilities for municipal and educational clients. Dave Burns and David Wald-Hopkins , co-principals, started their firm in 1992 after many years of successful practice with other larger firms.

Antoine Predock has been practicing architecture in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for over 30 years. Antoine has been ranked by other architects as the third most respected architect in the United States today. He has focused his work on appropriate responses to natural settings. Antoine holds a Bachelors Degree in Architecture (1962) from Columbia University, NY, and also attended the University of New Mexico.

Antoine's arts and theater experience includes co-director of a modern dance company and his time studying painting with Elaine DeKooning. Built projects include several performing arts facilities. Other theater spaces include an Omnimax theater in the Museum of Science & Industry in Tampa, Florida, and an I-Max Theater, demonstration theater and planetarium in the Arizona Science Center. In addition, Antoine was a finalist in the competition for the Baltimore Performing Arts Center in Baltimore, Maryland, and the competition for the Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland, College Park campus.

Jerald R. Hyde - Acoustical Consultant, brings world-wide experience to the design team. He has worked on many performing arts facilities, and since 1977 has been one of the most published American scientists in his field. Jerry heads his own firm - JRH Acoustical Consulting and is a graduate of UCLA in Physics. In his undergraduate days, he worked as a laboratory assistant with Professor Vern Knudesen, and is currently a Benefactor of UCLA's Department of Physics.

With 31 years experience, Jerry is known internationally for his work and research in performing arts and architectural acoustics. He has regularly visited the world's major concert halls and delivered papers at international conferences. He is an avid concert and opera-goer and a serious amateur performer. This appreciation and of the performing arts brings a uniquely intimate expertise to our design team.


Fred Masino, Theater Consultant, has been in the theater consulting profession since 1988, and in the architectural profession since 1979. He is a specialist in theater, lighting & rigging and heads his own firm - Fred Masino Theater Consulting. He holds a BA in Architectural Engineering (1979) from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Fred's experience includes major design responsibility for a wide variety of performing arts and entertainment facilities, providing specialized design expertise to the project architect; designing seating layouts that insure good sightlines and a sense of intimacy.

Fred has worked with leading professionals throughout the theater industry in order to gain firsthand practical knowledge of "how things work." As an example, he spent five months on site at the new Las Vegas MGM Grand Casino providing detailed design coordination during the construction of the Grand Theater, which features on of the largest and most complex stages in the world. He has also lectured on theater design as a guest speaker at The University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Architecture. His personal interest in literature and art complement his appreciation and awareness of the performing arts.
